Data Connectivity Requirements:

The Local Report app features video capture and upload as well as audio calling. Both of these activities require that you are connected to the Internet and use data. You are free to connect via WiFi or through your mobile carrier (3g or 4g) to perform these tasks.

We suggest that if you have a limited data plan or pay per KB or MB through your carrier, you may want to connect through WiFi so as not to incur the expense. If you have a large limit on your data plan or an unlimited high data speed connection on your phone (often referred to as 3g or 4g), please feel free to use the app without worrying about connecting via WiFi. Doing so will enable you to make your reports from places that you would otherwise not be able to visit being limited by WiFi.

To shoot and send video:

From your app screen, press the Local Report icon
You will get to the Home screen
Press the "Shoot" button
Turn your phone to Landscape mode (the "Start" button is right way up. The phone will be sideways.)
When you are ready to shoot, press the "Start" button to film something of what you see where you are.
Video will be recorded for 20 seconds.
You will see a counter that indicates seconds remaining.
When counter reaches 0, you will see on the screen indicators that the video is being automatically sent to the performance center.
You will see "Upload Succeeded" and
You will be returned to the Home screen

To make a voice call:

From the Home screen, press the "Call" button
You will be connected and informed that you are being put on hold, and you will hear hold music (Terry Riley's In C)
When music stops you will be cued to begin speaking.
Please start your call by saying where you are in the city you are you are calling from. For example: "I'm on 42nd Street in New York City"
Then continue with your description of something your are looking at.
You will hear a tone when the call has ended.
Press the "Hangup" button to return to the Home screen.

Please make several test video and voice calls to become familiar with the Local Report app

Performance Instructions

Each reporter should make two video calls and two voice calls -- four calls in total. Calls should alternate between video and voice, and each call should come from a different location.

In order to spread out the calls, the hour will be divided into 4 15-minute blocks of time and reporters will be asked to make their calls within specific blocks of time. Reporters should make a video and voice call in their first time block, each from a different location. When the first video and voice calls are completed, the reporters can then move to a third location and wait for their second time block to make their next two calls.

Reporters will be emailed their assigned time blocks and final instructions as we get closer to the performance date.

Reporters should please keep trying until they've made two video and two voice calls, as the system will accept video and voice calls for 10-15 minutes beyond the hour.
